Welcome!

My name is Sarah Samudre. I'm a writer, a reader, an avid but amateur cook and I travel the world and create art (mostly with film) with Vasant Samudre. Stories in all forms captivate me: books, campfire tales, TV, film, or an overheard conversation.

This is just a site focusing on what I'm addicted to storywise, mediawise, aesthetically and so on. To learn more about me, go here. To learn about my book, The Ashes, and other projects, go here. Or just start reading my posts and/or my Twitter to see for yourself.

Reclamation (My Second Novel - Currently in development)

So the working title of this book is 'Reclamation'. It's a novel about grief and devastation and the journey two people make to begin healing as individuals and as a couple. I don't want to give away too much online right now, but it's also an epic. I'm very excited about the way the road will be used. Some of the best stories are when spiritual and emotional journeys mirror and play off physical journeys that characters have to take.

I came up with the idea for the novel in the Fall of 2009 and it had to simmer on a back burner throughout most of 2010 while I finished The Ashes. Once The Ashes was finished, however, it came back and I felt as strongly about it as I had the first day I'd conceived it. (That is, by the way, a test I use on my ideas. I get so many that if I pursued all of the ones that struck me as fabulous, I'd never finish any. So I put them all on back burners. If they're good, they'll come back and beg to be worked on. If they were just a capricious whim, then I usually forget them within a week.)

Last fall, I began doing research on trauma and grief, with a specific focus on how grief affects relationships. Right now, this is my current booklist. It'll change a bit once I move out of the development phase and into the actual writing.

I will update this as the work progresses!
